Problem
Security managers were exporting raw CSV logs and filtering in Excel to satisfy compliance audits. The product had the data; the interface didn’t surface it usably.
Process
Shadowed two security managers through a live audit preparation. Mapped what they filtered for, in what order, and what they needed to hand off to external auditors. Ran a card sort to establish terminology alignment between the product’s data model and the users’ mental model.
Outcome
New audit interface reduced time-to-export from 45 minutes to under 5 for standard compliance queries. Passed review by an external security auditor without clarification requests.
